Photography is one of my passions. I want my photographs to envoke a sense of the places that I have seen to the viewer. Digital photography allows me to really deal with all aspects of the picture taking process. It also saves me alot of money. I would tend to shoot 20 rolls of film and between buying the film and developing it would cost almost as much as a decent digital camera.

My Gear

My gear consistes of:

  • Canon S2 IS with Lens adaptor Kit - I love this camera. Not quite as versitele as a DSLR, but with and integrated 12X optical zoom. With the lense adapter kit I can use my old filters. The only drawback is it is kind of big.
  • An A1 and Polarizing filter - Anytime I shoot in direct sunlight or there is alot of light bouncing around (water, sand, etc) a polarizing filter makes all the differnce. The A1 filter stays on the lense kit so the real lens does not get scratched.
  • Canon Powershot 900 - I have mixed feelings about this camera. I'm a big enough man to admit that I was won over by the massive pixel count, when I know better. As a point and shoot, it takes great pictures, but there aren't enough options to really let you play. Also, image stabalization would be great. The pictures taken at a high ISO tend to be grainy, but it is really small, light and durable.
  • A whole mess of 1gb SD Cards
  • A table top Tripod
  • A full size Tripod
  • Waterproof Housing for the 900

Software

All of my computers run Ubuntu Linux, but most of these programs have been ported over to Windows. For any heavy duty image manipulation, I use the gimp. Almost as good as Photoshop and free. I also have recently started using LightZone, which is a Adobe Lightroom replacement for managaing collections and batch processing of photos. My site here runs Coppermine for it's gallery with the Andreas-09 skin.
